Destruction of Distraction

Distraction….. it’s part of our life now adays.  I cannot have a conversation without my phone ringing, or getting an email or text message.  Not to mention the facebook page comments or the email constantly coming through my phone.  Distraction has become a not-so-welcomed part of most of our lives.  Some of us guard against it, but some of us are obsessed with it.  It consumes us, and sometimes it leads to destruction.

However, it’s not just technology that is distracting us these days.  We have a culture that is obsessed with addictions of all kinds.  I see people all the time that struggles with anxiety, or money, or self-loathing, or success, or food, or YOU NAME IT, IT’S OUT THERE.  I am convinced that these are not just addictions, but arrows from satan to distract you from your calling in Christ.

1 Peter 5:8 says,

Be sober of spirit, be on the alert.  Your adversary the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour.

I know that distraction is one of the most powerful weapons that satan throws at believers.  He knows that you might not cheat on your husband, or steal a car, or murder someone, but he knows how to get you off coarse.

I myself MANY times have been led away by distractions in my life.  One big one was my first marriage.  I was positive that God was calling my into ministry at a young age, and didn’t answer the call.  I was distracted by a handsome young man who was interested in me, and it was my obsession.  It later turned into my personal destruction.  I will never forget emotionally where that relationship ended me.  ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD, was I allowed to get back on track and forge forward in the pursuit of ministry.

I believe the children of Israel are the same way.  They knew after God delivered them from the land of Egypt, that God promised them that Promise Land.  They believed Him for a while until Moses had to go to meet with God on Mount Sinai for 40 days.  When Moses came down, he found this nation that 40 days prior had trusted God worshipping a golden calf they had built for themselves because they didn’t know where Moses had gone.

(You can read the story in Ex. 19-33.)

How do we veer so far away from God promises and call sometimes?????

James 1:14-15 says, But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.  Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings for death.

We listen to ourselves and get plugged into what we want.  We forget that there is a God Who is waiting to lead us and we start leading ourselves and feeding our selfish desires which brings about destruction.

I know we all have something that we struggle with.  What’s yours?  I know what mine is, and I try to keep myself aware.  When you are aware of something that could turn into a destructive pattern in your life, GUARD AGAINST IT!!  Put up safe guards, and stay the coarse with your relationship with God.

In 1 Peter 5:9 it says, But resist him (satan), firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

God says, RESIST HIM!!!!!!!  THAT IS THE ANSWER TO DISTRACTION.  Resist the urge, and call on the name of the Lord!

What is distracting you today?????  God is just a prayer away!

Danger

Daniel 6:23b

no injury whatever was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

The family and I recently visited the local circus.  I was thinking this might be fun for the kiddo’s, but for me and Eddie I knew it would probably be painful.  I pulled the truck in the parking lot, looking around at the clowns that were laughing and talking to tons of kids.  I wondered as I walked toward the gate, why did we come.  My kids however, were giggling with glee as the clown with the HUGE AND AWKWARD RED NOSE came up to them and gave them a hearty hello.  Being a germaphobe, I quickly squeezed hand sanitizer on their hands and bought our tickets.  Inside, there were what seemed like MILLIONS of light up toys, and balloons.  The smell of cotton candy was burning in my subjective as I heard my children screaming “I want that”, “I want that”.  Oh geez, here we go.  I had gone to the bank and pulled cash for the bombarding of the dreaded winki blinki light fiasco.  Each child was allowed to pick one.  Grace ended up with a butterfly, that sings (to her parents horror).  Jude settled for a more subtle ball that lights up.  Everyone was happy as we headed into the three ring circus.

We sat on the bottom row, giving us a great view of the happenings in the rings.  When the ever so cheesy ring master began, out walked an army of people ready to thrill us through the entire night.  The first act however, was the one that I have thought about ever since.

She was beautiful, she had long brown hair perfectly tightened into a pony tail.  The music got very loud and she approached the large circular fenced area.  Her white leotard was the costume that could hardly save her if anything went awry. As she approached the entrance to the den I saw her very distinctly make the shape of the cross with her hand.  Her hand swept her head, then heart, then left, then right.  She was obviously catholic, and desperately needed protection.  She walked in with her head held high.  She was confident in her pursuit to maintain control of the most beautiful white tigers I have ever seen.  There were five tigers that she taunted to do the tricks at her command for several minutes.  I was captivated.  I looked over at Eddie, and said, that woman is crazy.

Without a hitch, the act concluded and the woman exited the arena without a scratch.

My MIND WAS FILLED WITH THOUGHTS.

IT WENT STRAIGHT TO DANIEL.

In Daniel 6 King Darius made a statute that said that if anyone petitions any other god besides Kind Darius for 30 days, they shall be cast into the lions den.

The king was helped a little with the idea by some of the evil men in leadership in the kingdom. These men did not like Daniel, and knew how outspoken he was about his God, the one and only God.

Sure enough these men caught Daniel praying, to his God, and the King, although he like Daniel threw him into the lions den.  However, before the top was put on the den, the king told Daniel, “Your God whom you constantly serve will Himself deliver you,” and then covered the den with a stone.

I had flashes of this story last week as the woman entered the ring.  Without protection, each would be consumed by the beasts.  Daniel slept in the lions den that night.  I am sure he was counting the minutes until the stone was lifted from the top.  I am positive the most of the words uttered that night from Daniel’s mouth were prayers.

When daybreak came the king could not wait to open the top of the den to see if Daniel’s God had delivered him.  The Kings question to Daniel was, “Has your God, whom you constantly serve, been able to deliver you from the lions?”

The answer vs. 22, My God sent an angel and shut the lions mouth and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, o King, I have committed no crime.

Can you imagine the looks on the Kings face. Shock.

My point today, is God is not scary.  He is the ultimate PROTECTION.

I have talked with many amazing woman who are totally scared of God.  They look at God like He is the boogyman, and want nothing to do with Him because of the power He possesses.  Is the Christian life easy? NO!  However, YOU WILL NOT LIVE A LIFE MORE FULFILLING.  Are you fulfilled love, sitting watching re-runs of Oprah?  Does your money fulfill you?  Does your job fulfill you? Does your boyfriend?  Does your beauty?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, God allows things to happen, but when we are striving for HIM alone He works them for His glory, and for your good.  He is not scary.  He is our heavenly Father, who is begging you to let Him protect and fulfill you.

Take a minute today and read Psalm 91, this passage has always helped me when I am afraid.

When we are striving for HIS will alone, there is nothing to be fearful from!

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

God is the author of Perfect Love! Why, sweet girl, would you be fearful of your closest ally.

Audacious Faith

I could feel myself beginning to hyperventilate. It seemed in a moment that the oxygen from my large SUV had been sucked out and replaced with horror. I had just gotten on the phone with my husband who had relayed the news that our lawyer advised that we should concede. Humanly speaking, we could not win the court fiasco we were battling.  I had a long drive home that day.  Eddie and I were living in Phoenix, and we were in a court battle that no one our age should encounter.  We, through the death of Eddie’s father, had been dealt a deck of cards that seemed almost insurmountable for us at our ages, and yet we knew we had no choice.  The task seemed daunting.  Time almost froze as I was processing the road that might lie ahead if God didn’t intervene.  What would we do?  This can’t be.  This can’t be.  At each stoplight I stared into the abyss wondering how I made it from the last one.   Tears were too shocked to form in my eyes, and then I remembered what God had told me.

Months prior to the phone call, I found myself alone with my kids as Eddie needed to head to Midland to meet with several people regarding his dads death.  He would meet with several people during this time.  Many of the meetings didn’t go as planned and we were worried that a court battle would ensue. Shortly after he returned, it did. I lay on my bed as I talked with him on the phone as he downloaded his day with me only to hear him tell me it didn’t look good.  When we got off the phone I opened my bible desperate for the Life-giving message it would bring me.   The entire chapter of Psalm 37 sung to me that night.  One verse that stuck out completely was Psalm 37:7 which says, “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of him who carries out wicked schemes.” Many times in this chapter it says, “Do not fret.”  I began to sob uncontrollably as I knew that God was letting me know that NO MATTER WHAT, we would end up winning whatever we needed to.  I dated it in my bible 2/17/09.

Halfway home that day, it hit me God assured me we would win the court battle, so that means WE WILL.  I began to pray with audacity that day.  I prayed boldly before the throne in my gold SUV.  Reminding God what He told us, and we needed Him to work NOW.  I reminded Him that day of His faithful nature, and told Him that I expected Him to work.  I told Him we needed Him to show up in 24 hours, or we would have to concede the court battle.  I was desperate for Him, and knew that He was our only hope.

Twenty-four hours later, I was leaving church with my whole family in the car, and the call came.  A turn of events so powerful that ONLY GOD ALONE COULD HAVE BROUGHT TO PASS.  Long story short, we WON.

Why beautiful one, do we not expect God to do exactly what He says He will do?  I have shared this story often with individuals struggling with expecting great things from God.  Do you wonder why your spiritual life is stale? It shouldn’t be stale.  God is wondrously creative and crazy!!!!  WE just don’t really expect Him to do miracles in our life!  God want to do something SUPERNATURAL IN YOUR LIFE, I think most of the time that get frustrated with God is because we are not expecting God to do what He has promised to do.

God is NOT a cosmic being that is not interested in you.  He is waiting for you to pray with audacity, and have an audacious faith.  If you are bored, it’s because you don’t.  Why would you waste you waste your time on a God that you don’t really believe in?

God is Mighty, is your faith?

Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all of your heart.

Majesty

As I write to you today I am enjoying the salty sea air of the Alabama coastline.  Today is our first day here and relaxation has already been setting in.  We got up at about the crack of dawn this morning thanks to my screaming, and excited children.  They couldn’t wait any longer to dip their toes into the big blue deep.  Eddie and I both completely exhausted from yesterday’s trip, VERY reluctantly gave in to their pleas for breakfast and sand-castle building.

We were a little caught off guard by the cool air beating us as we began walking the perfect coastline of the ocean.  Jude (my son) was stylin in his dark blue shorts that have surfboards all over them, Grace looks so cute with her hot pink throw back to the 20’s suit that came complete with a dark purple coverup.  I was wearing some white yoga pants along with a sweatshirt, along with socks, along with shoes, along with an attitude.  I was TIRED!  As we walked, I began to notice the beautiful seashells that complemented the seashore just like jewels that adorn the queens neck.  The jewelry of the ocean was captivating.  My kids wondered and played and my mind was consumed with the thought of MAJESTY.  The site of the white sand, and the deep blue water was majestic.  This site could only have been created by ONE Who defines the word.

I know most Christians don’t understand the book of Revelation unless they have perhaps taken a course on the book, and studied up on their theology.  However, we can all understand this passage.

Read this with me slowly…….

Revelation 4:8-11

And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night THEY DO NOT CEASE TO SAY,

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, IS THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME.

And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forevermore and ever.  The twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will WORSHIP HIM WHO LIVES FOREVER AND EVER, AND WILL CAST THEIR CROWNS BEFORE THE THRONE SAYING,

WORTHY ARE YOU, OUR LORD AND OUR GOD TO RECEIVE GLORY AND HONOR AND POWER; FOR YOU CREATED ALL THINGS, AND BECAUSE OF YOUR WILL THEY EXISTED, AND WERE CREATED.

This scene in heaven may or may not freak you out.  I don’t believe it is allegorical, I believe strongly it is a literal picture of what is happening now in heaven.

This God that billions of people have believed in and worshipped from centuries gone by to the present is MAJESTIC.  He is King, only Him.

Because our minds are finite in nature we cannot imagine the power that His presence displays.   The amazing news is that this God, this King, wants a deeper relationship with you.  He loves you completely and utterly so much that He created you.  That idea is confirmed in the last part of Revelation 4:11.  It says, for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.

God is begging to go deeper in a relationship with you, because intentionally He created you.

Ask Him to show you His majesty today!
