EXPECTATION

Are we SURPRISED when God moves, or are we EXPECTING Him to move? Are we actually expecting God to do the things that we ask Him to do? Are we expecting Him to follow through? Are we expecting Him to MANIFEST THE PROMISE that He has given? Are we expecting God to move? Or, when God happens to move, are we SHOCKED and surprised by it? We have a generation of people that say that they believe by faith in God. I see a lot of words, but I don’t see a lot of expectation. Faith and expectation are SYNONYMOUS!! They are the same thing! We, by faith, expect God to do the things that He says He is going to do.

I want you, in whatever it is that you have asked God for, to believe that He is going to give, I want you to not be surprised when He comes through. I want you to change “If He does it, that’d be great. If He doesn’t do it, ok well I really didn’t believe anyway.” I want you to change to a MENTALITY OF EXPECTATION from the Lord. If you don’t expect, you don’t have faith, because FAITH EXPECTS!!

“If God says it, I am ABSOLUTELY going to expect it.” This quote has literally kept my entire ministry up and going for years and years because I know that He is as GOOD as His Word. I know that He will not lie. I know that, because I have seen Him do that over and over in my life!! But, lots of people don’t, especially people that say that they are followers. It’s interesting how new converts to the faith believe more than some of us that have been believing for fifty years.

I want to talk about the road to Emmaus today. (This is after the resurrection.)

Luke 24: 13-32

13 And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they were talking with each other about all these things (the crucifixion) which had taken place. 15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. 16 But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him.

* They didn’t know it was Jesus. *

17 And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they stood still, looking sad. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?” 19 And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him.

21 BUT WE WERE HOPING that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened. 22 But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. 24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.”

So here are these two guys having a conversation about the crucifixion. At this point, they do not believe that the resurrection happened. JESUS STEPS INTO THEIR CONVERSATION! Isn’t it interesting! How many conversations of doubt have we had when we know that if we are believers, the SPIRIT OF GOD LIVES IN US? He is privy to the conversations that we have about “Man, I was really hoping Jesus was going to come through. I prayed about it, and then God didn’t come through.” HE IS SITTING THERE PRESENT IN YOUR CONVERSATION OF DOUBT and you aren’t even aware of it.

So here He is having this conversation.

They look at Jesus, the RESURRECTED KING Himself, who has made Himself available to these two dudes on the way to Emmaus, and they say to Him, straight to His face:

21 “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.”

“But we were hoping, but it didn’t happen” and they were staring Him straight in the face.

A little later it goes on, and He actually goes to their house and He opens their eyes. They get to see that Jesus was actually dining at their table and they say,

32Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

I want to challenge you today:

God is FAITHFUL enough for you to expect EXACTLY what He says He is going to do!! You can EXPECT it from Him!

I want you to change your, “If he does it or not that would be great.” I want you to CHANGE IT to EXPECTATION. When we tell our kids something, we FOLLOW THROUGH; they can expect it from us. How much more can I, as a FOLLOWER OF THE LORD, expect it from my HEAVENLY FATHER who WANTS to give us GOOD THINGS. Expect it from Him rather than JUST hoping. “We were hoping…we were hoping.” The SPIRIT OF GOD is LISTENING.

I challenge you today to GET IN THE WORD OF GOD and ENCOURAGE YOURSELF in the pages of the Truth of God’s Word and change your hope to EXPECTATION of faith and see what HE WILL DO in your situation. Every time I change my “I hope” to expectation, I have seen MIRACLES and it has come based on confirmation of Scripture in the WORD OF GOD.

I love you. I hope this encourages you today.
